Soft grey light all day today, with a useful NNW wind pushing food about and a falling glass. Whatever swims in Crabapple Lake should be near windblown banks where food collects. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Crabapple Lake is a Clatsop County water, Oregon side. Elevation runs to 59 feet. Surface area runs to about 10 acres — small enough to read in one session. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Oregon listings. For a base, Warrenton sits 1.4 miles out. The big place round here is Hillsboro, 64 miles distant. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Public occurrence data for Clatsop County names Chinook salmon, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, Coho salmon and largemouth bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Crabapple Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect August near 61°F and January near 44°F on the long-run figures. The year gives four workable seasons without severe ends. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. The season on Crabapple Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Parking is mapped about half a mile from the bank. Overnight stays are possible half a mile away. Mapping records toilets within half a mile. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Shag Lake at 0.4 miles is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Crabapple Lake for certain.
