A closed sky with even light today, with a light chop building from the NNW and the barometer heading up. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Newkirk Lake. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Choctaw County entry here is Newkirk Lake, in Oklahoma. The bank is 486 feet above sea level. With some 36 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. It is low-lying compared with other Oklahoma water we list. The closest town, Antlers, is 17 miles away. Caddo is 21 miles and Atoka 22 miles. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists orangebelly darter, spotted bass, Rio Grande longear sunfish, bluegill and green sunfish. Presence in the area does not guarantee a fish on the day. Newkirk Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Temperature averages peak at 82°F in July and bottom out at 39°F in January. The hard part of the year is the heat, not the cold. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Newkirk Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Grassy Lake is 5.8 miles off. Check the position at Newkirk Lake before loading the car.
