A closed sky with even light today, with a consistent blow out of the WNW with pressure climbing. Most of the action on Schultz Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. Survey and observation records for Portage County include bluegill, redfin pickerel, pumpkinseed, warmouth and green sunfish. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Schultz Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.

From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan any trip to Schultz Lake around it.
