Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with the glass on the way up. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Zumpf Lake. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Zumpf Lake lies within the bounds of Wells County, North Dakota. This is rolling bush ground. At about 39 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. About 1.2 miles of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Wells County. New Rockford sits 18 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Harvey follows at 21 miles, then Fort Totten at 26 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Zumpf Lake gives up more to patience than to distance. Cast along the margin rather than straight out from it.
Temperature averages peak at 68°F in July and bottom out at 5°F in January. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. From about mid April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Zumpf Lake follows the weather closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Goose Lake at 1.1 miles is the nearest alternative. The position on Zumpf Lake is worth confirming on the day.
