Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a kind SSW breeze on the water with pressure climbing. Most of the action on Jim Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Jim Lake is a Stutsman County water, North Dakota side. The bank is 1,424 feet above sea level. Surface area runs to roughly 2.4 sq miles, so plan for one area rather than the whole. Around 8.0 miles of bank, which is a long day on foot. The closest town, Jamestown, is 19 miles away. Then Carrington, 24 miles, and New Rockford, 38 miles. Rules here are straightforward: one county, one set of rules.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Records held for Stutsman County cover Iowa darter, pikeperch and black bullhead. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Jim Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The year swings from about 6°F in January to roughly 69°F in July. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Jim Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Medicine Lake, 2.3 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Jim Lake as something to verify.
