No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with pressure dropping. The water to cover at Baumgartner Lake is windblown banks where food collects. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Look for Baumgartner Lake in the Emmons County part of North Dakota. Land around it is pine and birch. Roughly 698 acres of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. With 7.1 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Linton lies 7.2 miles from the water. After that come Mobridge at 45 miles and Lincoln at 48 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name northern pike. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Baumgartner Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 71°F in July and bottoms out near 8°F in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Baumgartner Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Schwahn Lake sits 3.9 miles off and takes the overflow. Signs at Baumgartner Lake carry more weight than any list.
