Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the SSW as pressure slides. Expect most activity at Hart Lake around shallow cover and weed edges. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Hart Lake is a Catawba County water, in North Carolina. The surface lies 958 feet up. Small at around 5 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Catawba County list. Start from Mountain View, 7 miles down the road. The big place round here is Charlotte, 38 miles distant. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. County-wide records name redbreast sunfish, bluegill and striped jumprock. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Hart Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 77°F; by January the average is down near 38°F. The awkward stretch is midsummer, not midwinter. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. It sets the rhythm of the year at Hart Lake.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Bel-Air Pond, 4.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Hart Lake locally before you travel.
