Heavy overcast holding through the day, with next to no ripple and a falling glass. Activity on Sturgeon Pool should centre on gaps in the weed within a lob. The day peaks in the evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Sturgeon Pool in the Ulster County part of New York. Salt water lies 37 miles off. Around 186 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. Size puts it in the front rank of our Ulster County list. The nearest place of any size is Rosendale Village, 1.7 miles away. Further out sit Tillson (1.7 miles) and Marbletown (4.5 miles). A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Levels move with the draw rather than the rain on water like this. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Ulster County records list common carp, brown trout, brook trout and goldfish among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Sturgeon Pool the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 72°F and January near 25°F on the long-run figures. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late March. The open-water window runs from around late March to about late December in an average year. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. At Sturgeon Pool the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Louisa Pond, 2.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Sturgeon Pool are worth checking on the day.
