Heavy overcast holding through the day, with almost no wind to speak of with a settled glass. Give the channel swing where it comes near the bank the first hour at Potuck Reservoir. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

New York holds Potuck Reservoir, in Greene County. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. Surface area is around 54 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 1.1 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On our Greene County list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Cairo is 4.7 miles out. After that come Coxsackie at 6.1 miles and Jefferson Heights at 7.1 miles. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. County-wide records name common carp, rudd and goldfish. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Potuck Reservoir light and wind decide more than tackle does.
In an average year July sits at 71°F and January at 23°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late March. Expect the water usable from around late March until roughly late December. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Potuck Reservoir runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Mill Pond sits 1.7 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Potuck Reservoir.
