Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with a soft SW wind and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Miami River around the first pool below broken water. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Miami River is a Hamilton County water, New York side. The ground around here is mixed forest. The nearest town is Northville, 30 miles away. Beyond it, Edinburg at 32 miles and Warrensburg at 33 miles. Near neighbours include: 2.2 miles away is Panther Pond, Jessup River near enough 2.2 miles, 2.7 miles away is Mason Lake, Dug Mountain Ponds near enough 3.5 miles and 4.4 miles away is Owl Pond. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no depth figure for this one. After rain the colour clears from the surface first, so fish the edges. Gravel runs and silted pools fish quite differently, so treat them apart. Open biodiversity records for Hamilton County list lake trout, brook trout and yellow perch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Miami River should walk it once before setting up.
On the long-term average, July reads 64°F and January reads 14°F. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter slows the flow and edges it with ice; the open runs keep fishing where the current holds. Break-up near mid April, freeze-up near early December: that is the shape of an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Miami River the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Jessup River Wild Forest covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Panther Pond, 2.2 miles out. None of that is settled for Miami River in what we hold.
