Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with air barely moving with the glass slipping lower. The water to cover at Deer Pond is gaps in the weed within a lob. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Let the water tell you when to move. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Deer Pond lies within the bounds of Westchester County, New York. The setting is open valley on every side. On water this small, stealth matters more than range. On size it sits at the modest end of our Westchester County list. The nearest place of any size is Yorktown Heights, 2.4 miles away. North Stamford sits 15 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Westchester County include common carp, striped bass, bluegill and brown trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Deer Pond before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs 27°F to 73°F. Most months fish reasonably, given the right weather. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. Plan any trip to Deer Pond around it. Water colour tells you more than the air temperature does.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The closest car park is half a mile away, so pack accordingly. Turkey Mountain West Unit covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Quarry Lake sits 1.2 miles off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Deer Pond in what we hold.
