Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with calm air over the water as pressure slides. The water to cover at Cody Pond is margins first, middle later. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Cody Pond is one of the Oswego County waters in New York. The country round it is rolling bush from end to end. Surface area is around 41 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 1.9 miles, small enough to learn in a day. Start from Bernhards Bay, 5.5 miles down the road. Then Camden, 6.8 miles, and Constantia, 7.6 miles. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Oswego County list alewife, rainbow smelt, lake trout, johnny darter and yellow perch. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Cody Pond for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Typical July readings run about 69°F; by January the average is down near 21°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early April. Ice clears near early April and comes back about mid December in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Cody Pond the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Panther Lake is 1.7 miles distant. Check the position at Cody Pond before loading the car.
