A wet system passing over today, with a kind WNW breeze on the water and pressure easing off. The water to cover at Chub Lake is bays that hold the day's warmth. Plan around the stretch from afternoon into evening. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In New York, Chub Lake falls inside Hamilton County. This is mixed forest ground. The water measures roughly 16 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Dolgeville at 16 miles is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Gloversville (17 miles) and Northville (18 miles). The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name lake trout, brook trout and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Chub Lake decides where the fish sit.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 65°F, while January sits near 15°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly early December. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Chub Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Parking within half a mile means no long carry with tackle. There is a campsite 170 yards from the water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Good Luck Lake at 0.9 miles is the sensible second choice. Signs at Chub Lake carry more weight than any list.
