Damp, showery conditions today, with a gentle ripple from the NW with a softening glass. Most of the action on Buck Lake should come off structure within a cast of the bank. If you pick one session, make it the middle of the day. Keep moving until you find them. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Buck Lake lies in Oneida County, New York. The country here is mixed forest. It runs to roughly 43 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. About 1.4 miles of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. You are 7.6 miles from Boonville. The big place round here is Syracuse, 58 miles distant. A county boundary sits nearby, which can matter for local access rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Oneida County, recorded fish include brown trout, white sucker, yellow perch, common carp and rock bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Buck Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
On the long-term average, July reads 66°F and January reads 16°F. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. On average, mid April opens the water and early December closes it again. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan any trip to Buck Lake around it.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Barnes Lake is 1.2 miles off. None of that is settled for Buck Lake in what we hold.
