Soft grey light all day today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure on the rise. The productive water at Cutter Reservoir will be around flooded cover along the old banks. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

You will find Cutter Reservoir in San Juan County, New Mexico. The bank gives way to open valley. Surface area is around 54 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 1.4 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Supplies mean a trip to Bloomfield, 17 miles off. Aztec is 19 miles and Lee Acres 20 miles. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. County-wide records name flannelmouth sucker, bluehead sucker, channel catfish, common carp and largemouth bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Fish Cutter Reservoir where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The year swings from about 28°F in January to roughly 74°F in July. The swings are modest, so patterns change slowly. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. The season on Cutter Reservoir follows the weather closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is a ramp at Cutter Reservoir Boat Launch, half a mile out. The water borders Cutter Reservoir Public Recreation Area, so expect the reserve rules to apply. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Laguna Seca, 21 miles out. Rules at Cutter Reservoir are worth checking on the day.
