No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a light chop building from the E as pressure builds. On Swanson Lake, work reed fringes and open pockets first. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Swanson Lake is a Hitchcock County water, Nebraska side. Elevation runs to 2,746 feet. Around 7.3 sq miles of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. The outline measures near 13 miles, so local knowledge counts. Across our Nebraska listings, few waters are bigger. For supplies, Atwood is 24 miles out. Greeley is the closest city, 191 miles away. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
The basin drops to a measured 45 feet. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Records held for Hitchcock County cover common carp, channel catfish and rock bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Swanson Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
On the long-term average, July reads 76°F and January reads 26°F. The calendar is generous: something works in nearly every month. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. The season on Swanson Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Part of this sits inside or beside Swanson Reservoir State Wildlife Management Area, so read the notices. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Krotter-Rice Reservoir, 14 miles out. None of that is settled for Swanson Lake in what we hold.
