Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a faint ENE drift with a softening glass. Fish at Base Lake should hold close to shallow cover and weed edges. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Base Lake stands in Sarpy County, Nebraska. The water sits 948 feet up. It runs to roughly 122 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 1.9 miles, small enough to learn in a day. Bellevue at 1.6 miles is the nearest place to stop. Offutt Air Force Base is 1.9 miles and Plattsmouth 7.1 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Sounding records show water to about 30 feet. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Sarpy County include bluegill, green sunfish and black crappie. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Anyone new to Base Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Long-term averages put July at about 77°F and January near 22°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid March. The lid tends to go about mid March and return around mid December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Base Lake that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Moorings are at Boat Dock, roughly half a mile off. Archery holds the nearest mapped parking, half a mile out. Public data records a pier about half a mile out. Somewhere to sit and eat is half a mile out. Facilities include toilets around half a mile from here. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Folsom Lake at 3.9 miles is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Base Lake if anything is unclear.
