A day shaped by the wind, with rough air from the WSW and the barometer heading up. The water to cover at Natahki Lake is the shallows early and the drop later. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Natahki Lake in Glacier County, Montana. The country round it is mixed forest from end to end. At roughly 11 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Glacier County list holds plenty of bigger water. Cardston sits 31 miles from the bank. Then North Browning, 35 miles, and Browning, 35 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for Glacier County names brook trout, northern pike and longnose sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Treat Natahki Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
August runs about 55°F on average, January about 16°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Natahki Lake that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Kennedy Lake at 1.2 miles is the nearest alternative. Where Natahki Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
