Gusty conditions over the water today, with stillness over the whole water and the barometer heading up. Little Bitterroot Lake should fish best around bays that hold the day's warmth today. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Little Bitterroot Lake is listed under Flathead County, Montana. The bank is 3,904 feet above sea level. This is big water, about 4.6 sq miles, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. The edge covers about 11 miles, enough to hold several distinct areas. On our Flathead County list it sits near the top for size. Kalispell lies 19 miles from the water. After that come Evergreen at 22 miles and Somers at 23 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Flathead County include rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, largemouth bass and brook trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Little Bitterroot Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Temperature averages peak at 62°F in August and bottom out at 21°F in January. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early April. On average, early April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Little Bitterroot Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lone Lake at 6 miles is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Little Bitterroot Lake in what we hold.
