Wind pushing hard across the water today, with a consistent blow out of the SW with pressure dropping. Expect most activity at Hungry Horse Reservoir around the channel swing where it comes near the bank. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Hungry Horse Reservoir lies within the bounds of Flathead County, Montana. It sits at 3,510 feet above sea level. This is big water, about 36.9 sq miles, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. There is far more edge than the surface area suggests, thanks to the arms. It is the biggest water on our Flathead County list. For supplies, Bigfork is 14 miles out. For a city, Lethbridge is 117 miles off. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Public occurrence data for Flathead County names rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, largemouth bass, brook trout and yellow perch. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Hungry Horse Reservoir the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The year swings from about 20°F in January to roughly 60°F in August. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Look for the thaw near mid April; the fishing lifts straight after. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late November in an average year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Hungry Horse Reservoir runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Launching is possible: a slipway lies half a mile off. Graves Bay Boat Launch is mapped as a fishing spot half a mile from the water. Facilities run to toilets half a mile from the water. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Handkerchief Lake, 1.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Hungry Horse Reservoir carry more weight than any list.
