Gusty conditions over the water today, with gusty, awkward wind from the WSW and a falling glass. Start the search at Bighorn Lake along sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Bighorn Lake is one of the Lewis and Clark County waters in Montana. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. About 13 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. The town to know is Lincoln, 17 miles out. Lethbridge is the closest city, 174 miles away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for Lewis and Clark County names rainbow trout, sockeye salmon and brown trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Take Bighorn Lake a stretch at a time.
Long-term averages put July at about 56°F and January near 19°F. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish Bighorn Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Heart Lake is 4.1 miles off. Confirm before you fish Bighorn Lake.
