Overcast skies today, with light air out of the ESE and pressure easing off. The productive water at Swan Lake will be around reed fringes and open pockets. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Swan Lake is an Anoka County water, Minnesota side. The setting is mixed forest. It runs to roughly 39 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 1.0 miles, small enough to learn in a day. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Minnesota listings. Oak Grove is the closest town at 2.7 miles. East Bethel lies 3.9 miles off, Ham Lake another 5 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Anoka County names bluegill, common carp and black crappie. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Swan Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-term averages put July at about 71°F and January near 11°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early April. The open-water window runs from around early April to about late November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It holds true on Swan Lake more years than not.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is somewhere to leave the car, half a mile off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Ward Lake, 2.3 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Swan Lake in what we hold.
