A closed sky with even light today, with a useful NW wind pushing food about as pressure builds. Activity on Snatch Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Look for Snatch Lake in the Lake County part of Minnesota. The water sits 1,503 feet up. This is a pocket water of some 19 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Ely sits 29 miles from the bank. Babbitt is 38 miles away, with Grand Marais at 47 miles. In the same area: Reflection Lake within 0.6 miles, Ima Lake 0.7 miles off, Solitude Lake within 1.1 miles, Hatchet Lake 1.2 miles off and Sedative Lake within 1.3 miles. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Lake County cover white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike, rainbow trout and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Snatch Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 65°F and January near 4°F. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Snatch Lake follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. A campsite lies half a mile away for anyone staying over. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Reflection Lake, 0.6 miles out. Nothing here settles the position at Snatch Lake for certain.
