Heavy overcast holding through the day, with barely a breath of wind with a softening glass. Whatever swims in Sjodin Lake should be near shallow cover and weed edges. A long productive spell runs morning through afternoon. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Sjodin Lake is one of the Aitkin County waters in Minnesota. The ground round it is pine and birch. With some 44 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 1.0 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Nearest town is Aitkin, 7.6 miles off. Crosby is 16 miles and Vineland 20 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Aitkin County include northern pike, bluegill, yellow perch and black crappie. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Sjodin Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 68°F, while January sits near 6°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Climate figures give an open season running mid April to late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Sjodin Lake.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Monson Lake sits 1 mile off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Sjodin Lake in what we hold.
