Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with a light chop building from the SSW with a softening glass. Fish at Rush Lake should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Pine County in Minnesota is where Rush Lake sits. It sits at 1,053 feet above sea level. With some 74 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Roughly 1.6 miles of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Moose Lake is the closest place, 6.7 miles off. Further out sit Sandstone (16 miles) and Hinckley (25 miles). A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Pine County include northern pike, bluegill, largemouth bass, black crappie and pumpkinseed. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Fish Rush Lake to its features, not to its size.
Expect July to average close to 68°F, with January the cold end at about 8°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly late November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That is the shape of the year on Rush Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A made slipway is half a mile from here, which settles the boat question. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Passenger Lake, 0.8 miles away. Check the position on Rush Lake before loading the car.
