• Where to Fish on Round Lake

There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Hennepin County cover bluegill, common carp and largemouth bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Round Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.

• Seasonal Patterns

Climate normals give 73°F for July and 12°F for January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near early December in autumn. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That shapes the year on Round Lake.
