An even grey lid over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SSW as pressure slides. Rice Lake should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Rice Lake lies within the bounds of Crow Wing County, Minnesota. Around the bank it is pine and birch. Surface area is around 56 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Pequot Lakes is the closest place, 1.9 miles off. Breezy Point follows at 2.5 miles, then Nisswa at 5.1 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Crow Wing County include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch and northern pike. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Read Rice Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages move between 7°F in January and 69°F in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. On average, mid April opens the water and late November closes it again. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Rice Lake follows the weather closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Expect a half a mile walk in from where the car goes. This sits inside Lowell Wildlife Management Area, so read the reserve notices first. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Cloverleaf Lake is 0.9 miles distant. Nothing on Rice Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
