Dull, settled light over the water, with mild air moving in from the SSW with pressure dropping. Most of the action on Quick Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

You will find Quick Lake in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. It covers about 4 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Our Crow Wing County list holds plenty of bigger water. Start from Baxter, 12 miles down the road. The big place round here is Minneapolis, 103 miles distant. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Open biodiversity records for Crow Wing County list largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch and northern pike. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Quick Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Temperature averages peak at 69°F in July and bottom out at 8°F in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. The season between ice runs from about mid April to late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Quick Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Lake Alott at 0.2 miles is the nearest alternative. Signs at Quick Lake carry more weight than any list.
