A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with light air out of the WNW and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Pomroy Lake along reed fringes and open pockets. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Pomroy Lake is set in Kanabec County, Minnesota. The bank is 1,083 feet above sea level. At 255 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. The shoreline runs about 4.6 miles, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. On our Kanabec County list it sits near the top for size. Nearest place of any size is Mora, 11 miles away. Minneapolis is the closest city, 71 miles away. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
The charted maximum sits at about 12 feet. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Kanabec County include largemouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, bluegill and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. On Pomroy Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
July runs about 68°F on average, January about 7°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It holds true on Pomroy Lake more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a mapped slipway roughly half a mile away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Should this one be busy, Lake Full of Fish is 2.7 miles off. Nothing here settles the position at Pomroy Lake for certain.
