Overcast skies today, with enough NNW wind to stack food downwind as pressure builds. Most of the action on Perch Lake should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

This water sits in Martin County, Minnesota. Height above sea level is 1,086 feet. Around 165 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. With about 2.5 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Truman sits 2.9 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Further out sit Fairmont (10 miles) and Saint James (15 miles). A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Martin County records list common carp, yellow perch and black bullhead among the fish reported. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Anyone new to Perch Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Climate records put July near 72°F and January near 13°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early April. Open water usually runs from early April until about early December. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Perch Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A campsite is mapped about half a mile away, which makes an early start easier. The water borders Perch Creek Wildlife Management Area, so reserve rules are likely to apply. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Murphy Lake, 1.6 miles out. None of that is settled for Perch Lake in what we hold.
