A crisp, open sky after dark, with dead-still conditions and pressure on the rise. Start the search at Maria Lake along the shallows early and the drop later. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Carver County entry here is Maria Lake, in Minnesota. The water sits 912 feet up. It measures about 124 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. About 1.8 miles of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Ground here is low by Minnesota standards. Head to Cologne, 3.5 miles away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, Belle Plaine at 6.9 miles and Carver at 7.6 miles. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Carver County list bluegill, largemouth bass, common carp, black crappie and pumpkinseed. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Maria Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 71°F and January near 11°F on the long-run figures. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early April. In an average year the thaw lands around early April and the freeze near late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Maria Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Johnson Lake, 3.4 miles away. For Maria Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
