Solid cloud cover today, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and pressure easing off. Expect most activity at Lunch Lake around the shallows early and the drop later. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lunch Lake is set in Itasca County, Minnesota. Elevation runs to 1,339 feet. At 8 acres it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Itasca County list. For supplies, Cohasset is 5.8 miles out. After that come Grand Rapids at 8.1 miles and Coleraine at 14 miles. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Itasca County include yellow perch, largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill and black crappie. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Lunch Lake is often the one people ignore.
Climate records put July near 67°F and January near 5°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Plan any trip to Lunch Lake around it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Rice Lake, 1.2 miles away. What applies at Lunch Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
