Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light NW breeze and pressure on the rise. The fish at Loon Lake are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Loon Lake sits in Rainy River District, out in Ontario. The water sits 351 metres up. Surface area runs to some 10.80 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. The outline measures near 52 km, so a boat opens up water the bank never reaches. It is among the larger waters listed here for Rainy River District. Ely at 48 km is the nearest place to stop. Thunder Bay is the closest city, 224 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Surveys put the deepest water at about 26 metres. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Rainy River District records list northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Loon Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Climate records put July near 19°C and January near -16°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan any trip to Loon Lake around it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is camping recorded roughly 670 m off. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Beatty Lake, 3.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Loon Lake as something to verify.
