A crisp, open sky after dark, with dead-still conditions as pressure builds. Activity on Long Pond should centre on gaps in the weed within a lob. The strongest window runs from morning through afternoon. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Sherburne County, Minnesota, is where Long Pond sits. The ground round it is mixed forest. With some 48 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 1.6 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Minnesota listings. For supplies, Princeton is 4.2 miles out. Then Zimmerman, 4.9 miles, and Saint Francis, 13 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Sherburne County records list bluegill, northern pike and largemouth bass among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Long Pond responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Between January at about 10°F and July at about 71°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early April. Ice usually gives way near early April, and forms again about late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Anyone fishing Long Pond regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Cantlin Lake is 2.2 miles distant. None of that is settled for Long Pond in what we hold.
