A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with a soft NNW wind and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lone Tree Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

This water sits in Lyon County, Minnesota. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. At about 40 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.3 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Our Lyon County list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest town is Cottonwood, 2.1 miles off. Sioux Falls sits 90 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Lyon County: common carp, walleye, black bullhead, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lone Tree Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
July runs about 72°F on average, January about 12°F. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early April and starts locking again about late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Lone Tree Lake around it.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The water borders Gabriel Anderson Wildlife Management Area, so reserve rules are likely to apply. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Cottonwood Lake, 1.5 miles away. Ask locally about Lone Tree Lake if anything is unclear.
