A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer on the way down. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Lax Lake. The day holds up well from the day. Let the water tell you when to move. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

Minnesota holds Lax in Lake County. Elevation runs to 1,266 feet. This is sizeable water at about 291 acres, and a boat opens up most of it. With 3.7 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. On our Lake County list it sits near the top for size. Silver Bay is the closest town at 4 miles. Two Harbors follows at 28 miles, then Babbitt at 39 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Charted depth runs to roughly 35 feet at its lowest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Lake County include white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike, rainbow trout and walleye. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Lax Lake decides where the fish sit.
The seasonal spread runs 7°F to 64°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lax Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. You can launch from a ramp around half a mile away. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. A platform or pier sits within half a mile. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Tetagouche Lake at 1.4 miles is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Lax Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
