Flat light and a covered sky today, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW with pressure dropping. Activity on Lauer Lake should centre on the weed line and any gaps in it. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lauer Lake falls in Cass County, part of Minnesota. The surface lies 1,316 feet up. This is a pocket water of some 25 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The closest town, Crosslake, is 29 miles away. It is 116 miles to Fargo, the nearest city. Nearest other option: Horseshoe Lake at 0.6 miles, Wawa Lake roughly 0.7 miles, Hagen Lake at 1.5 miles, Rat Lake roughly 1.7 miles and Cedar Lake at 1.7 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Cass County list largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Work Lauer Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
In an average year July sits at 68°F and January at 6°F. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late November in an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Lauer Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Ah-gwah-ching Wildlife Management Area covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Horseshoe Lake is 0.6 miles distant. Rules at Lauer Lake are worth checking on the day.
