Soft grey light all day today, with flat calm through the day and pressure ticking upward. Whatever swims in Lake Gegoka should be near the shallows early and the drop later. Make the evening the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

You will find Lake Gegoka in Lake County, Minnesota. The surface lies 1,759 feet up. It runs to roughly 146 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With 3.3 miles or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Compared with other Minnesota water on our list, it sits high. For supplies, Babbitt is 22 miles out. For a city, Thunder Bay is 115 miles off. This one is safely inside the county line.
The basin has been measured to about 7.9 feet. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Lake County list white sucker, yellow perch and northern pike. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lake Gegoka fishes better once you know its edges.
The year swings from about 4°F in January to roughly 64°F in July. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan around that when you fish Lake Gegoka.
Access is not recorded for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is a slipway at Lake Gegoka, roughly half a mile off. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Flat Horn Lake at 1.2 miles is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lake Gegoka in what we hold.
