Rain on and off through the day, with light air out of the ESE with the glass slipping lower. Expect most activity at Lake Erskine around the shallows early and the drop later. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lake Erskine is set in Itasca County, Minnesota. Country round the bank runs to pine and birch. With some 37 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Keewatin at 31 miles is the nearest place to stop. After that come Chisholm at 32 miles and Hibbing at 33 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Itasca County include yellow perch, largemouth bass and northern pike. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Lake Erskine rewards a slow walk along one bank.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 66°F, while January sits near 5°F. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Lake Erskine follows the weather closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. You can camp about half a mile away, going by the mapping. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Sucker Lake is 0.7 miles off. Confirm access to Lake Erskine locally before you travel.
