A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind ESE breeze on the water and pressure easing off. Activity on Lake Alvin should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. A broad window opens from afternoon into evening. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Douglas County, Minnesota, this is Lake Alvin. Mixed forest runs right down to the water. It measures about 121 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Alexandria is the closest place, 3.2 miles off. For a city, Fargo is 93 miles off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple. Alexandria counts roughly 12,000 residents.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name largemouth bass, common carp and bluegill. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lake Alvin responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The year swings from about 9°F in January to roughly 71°F in July. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. Ice usually gives way near mid April, and forms again about late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Plan around that when you fish Lake Alvin.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Launching is possible: a slipway lies half a mile off. The closest car park is half a mile away, so pack accordingly. A pier half a mile from here gives a platform over deeper water. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lake Darling, 0.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lake Alvin locally before you travel.
