A closed sky with even light today, with a light SE breeze and pressure on the rise. Expect most activity at Lake Allie around reed fringes and open pockets. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Set in Renville County, Minnesota, this is Lake Allie. The country here is pine and birch. The water covers around 504 acres, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. Around 4.3 miles of bank, which is a long day on foot. Start from Hector, 8.7 miles down the road. Hutchinson is 11 miles and Glencoe 20 miles. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
Surveys put the deepest water at about 11 feet. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Renville County, recorded fish include common carp, walleye and channel catfish. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. At Lake Allie light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Average temperature peaks around 72°F in July and bottoms out near 11°F in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. In an average year the thaw lands around early April and the freeze near late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lake Allie the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is a mapped slipway roughly half a mile away. Overnight stays are possible half a mile away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Preston Lake, 1.7 miles out. For Lake Allie, the notice at the access point is the final word.
