Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a light SE breeze and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on La Lake should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. The forecast backs the stretch from morning through afternoon. Ride the conditions while they last. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

La Lake is a Washington County water, in Minnesota. It sits in lake country bush. Roughly 42 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 1.2 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is low-lying compared with other Minnesota water we list. Nearest place of any size is Newport, 2.1 miles away. Woodbury lies 2.5 miles off, South Saint Paul another 3.2 miles. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Washington County include bluegill, largemouth bass, brown trout and northern pike. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. La Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Averages move between 12°F in January and 72°F in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. Expect the water usable from around early April until roughly early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That is the shape of the year on La Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. You can park half a mile away and walk in from there. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Ria Lake at 0.6 miles is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at La Lake for certain.
