A grey, even sky over the water, with mild air moving in from the ESE and pressure sitting still. On Keller Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. The useful hours run morning through afternoon. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Keller Lake lies in Ramsey County, Minnesota. The water sits 846 feet up. At about 76 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 1.6 miles, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Minnesota listings. 1.9 miles away sits Little Canada, the nearest town. After that come North Saint Paul at 3.4 miles and Vadnais Heights at 3.5 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
The basin has been measured to about 5.6 feet. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Ramsey County include bluegill, common carp, black crappie, largemouth bass and northern pike. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Keller Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 73°F, with January the cold end at about 12°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid usually goes in early April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice clears near early April and comes back about early December in a typical year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Keller Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The slipway at Spoon Lake Boat Launch is half a mile away. A car park lies half a mile away, so the walk in is short. Public data records a pier about half a mile out. There are toilets half a mile off. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Gervais Lake, 0.9 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Keller Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
