A still, cloudless night on the water, with a proper ripple driven from the N with the glass on the way up. Expect most activity at Indian Lake around shallow cover and weed edges. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Otter Tail County in Minnesota is where Indian Lake sits. It sits at 1,270 feet above sea level. At about 153 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 2.5 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Fergus Falls sits 6.9 miles from the bank. The nearest city of size is Fargo, 60 miles away. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name largemouth bass, black crappie, walleye, bluegill and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Treat Indian Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Expect July to average close to 70°F, with January the cold end at about 7°F. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Indian Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Access is not recorded for this water. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. C & M Ranch WPA covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Larson Lake, 0.8 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Indian Lake in what we hold.
