Bright, clear skies over the water today, with steady pressure of wind from the SW with the glass slipping lower. Whatever swims in Fox Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Fox Lake is a Murray County water, Minnesota side. The surface lies 1,476 feet up. It measures about 169 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Roughly 2.5 miles of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Tracy is the closest town at 6.7 miles. Slayton is 12 miles and Fulda 19 miles. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Murray County, recorded fish include common carp, walleye, black bullhead and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Fox Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs 12°F to 72°F. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early April. Averages suggest open water from about early April through to roughly late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Fox Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A carry of half a mile from the nearest parking is the price of fishing here. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Robbins Slough is 0.9 miles off. Rules at Fox Lake are worth checking on the day.
