Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with enough NW wind to stack food downwind and pressure ticking upward. Fire Lake should fish best around windblown banks where food collects today. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

Fire Lake is one of the Lake County waters in Minnesota. Elevation runs to 1,503 feet. At about 109 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline length is close to 3.3 miles, and each section fishes a little differently. Some 23 miles away sits Ely, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Thunder Bay, 103 miles distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Lake County records list white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike, rainbow trout and walleye among the fish reported. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fire Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 65°F in July and bottom out at 4°F in January. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Fire Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is camping recorded roughly half a mile off. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Hood Lake, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Fire Lake in what we hold.
