Elixir Lake in Lake County: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Elixir Lake falls in Lake County, part of Minnesota. Elevation runs to 1,772 feet. About 16 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. • Where to Fish on Elixir Lake

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Lake County, recorded fish include white sucker, yellow perch, northern pike, rainbow trout and walleye. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Elixir Lake repays a walk before the first cast.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Climate records put July near 64°F and January near 5°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Elixir Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.

• Tackle & Baits

  We hold no note on access for this one. There is a mapped slipway roughly half a mile away. Parking is not close: half a mile from the bank, and no nearer option is mapped. Overnight stays are possible about half a mile out, where camping is mapped. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Hogback Lake sits 0.6 miles off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Elixir Lake for certain.
