Bright, clear skies over the water today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the barometer flat. The productive water at Eagle Lake will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for Eagle Lake in Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Elevation runs to 978 feet. The water covers around 743 acres, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The outline measures near 5.5 miles, so local knowledge counts. On our Blue Earth County list it sits near the top for size. Some 1.9 miles away sits Eagle Lake, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Madison Lake (4.2 miles) and Mankato (6 miles). A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name common carp, bluegill, yellow perch, black bullhead and black crappie. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Eagle Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Typical July readings run about 72°F; by January the average is down near 12°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. The season between ice runs from about early April to early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. On Eagle Lake that shapes the whole year.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The nearest car park we can see is half a mile out, so expect a walk with your gear. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Albert Lake at 1.7 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Eagle Lake before loading the car.
