A wet system passing over today, with an easy breeze from the ESE with pressure dropping. Start the search at Duck Lake along the margins and the shelf beyond them. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Itasca County end of Minnesota holds Duck Lake. The bank is 1,309 feet above sea level. About 13 acres of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Itasca County list. For supplies, Cohasset is 28 miles out. Coleraine is 28 miles and Grand Rapids 30 miles. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Itasca County include yellow perch, largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill and black crappie. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Duck Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Typical July readings run about 67°F; by January the average is down near 4°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Duck Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Beaver Lake, 0.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Duck Lake in what we hold.
