A closed sky with even light today, with a faint SSW drift with the glass slipping lower. The productive water at Duck Lake will be around shallow cover and weed edges. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Night
Duck Lake is a Crow Wing County water, Minnesota side. Mixed forest runs right down to the water. Roughly 147 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 3.0 miles of margin, front to back. For a base, Crosslake sits 2.4 miles out. Further out sit Breezy Point (4.7 miles) and Pequot Lakes (7.6 miles). One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Crow Wing County, recorded fish include largemouth bass, bluegill, yellow perch and northern pike. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Treat Duck Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
The year swings from about 8°F in January to roughly 69°F in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Plan around that when you fish Duck Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a slipway on the shore, half a mile from the water we list. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Little Star Lake sits 0.7 miles off and takes the overflow. What applies at Duck Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
